My friend has an eMac and the dude he bought it off, didnt give him the admin password. so its basically stuck. It logs into some restricted username but he cant re-install MacOSX from there because it keeps asking for the admin password. Question: how to reset the admin password.

the mac won't boot automatically from the disc if you insert it and turn on. you have to hold down C (to boot from CD) or alt (to show all available boot volumes)

once you booted from the CD into the graphical installer, go installer-->reset password.

done.

this info is widely available on google, btw wink.gif

there is always the root user. If it hasn't been turned on yet. But you may have to be an admin to turn it on.

BUt yes...boot into the CD by holding C, then reset the pasword or re-format from there
