It appears every iPod has a secret service menu. It offers some nice diagnostics and pattern tests which look great on a color ipod.

You can access it as follows.

Reset your pod by holding the center key and menu,
as soon as the screen blanks out, press center and rewind.

You will now access the secret menu.

umm, i knew about that one even before i had an ipod.

if it gets stuck, just switch on the Hold, switch it off again, then hold menu and center to reboot

yes, that's the reboot combo to reset the ipod. that's in the user manual. the 'secret' part is the second step. a key skill in basic reading is to be able to go beyond the first line

i meant to reset if its stuck inside service mode, it's happened a lot to me

there's also a key combo to force it into Drive Mode, but i dont know it offhand

That's center + play while rebooting. usb1 speed only, and only needed for ipodlinux. (which is great btw)
