Hi all,
A friend of mine gave me his broken iPod 20Gig 4G and I'm trying to fix it, as he just went out and bought a new video one. I'm thinking it is the battery although I wanted make sure by asking here before I go out to buy a replacement battery for it.
The iPod wont turn on, and resetting does not work. I get a blank screen all the time. However when connecting the iPod to the PC via USB, the apple logo flashes quickly and a low battery signal appears with the explanation mark. The computer wont recognise that the iPod has been plugged into it either.
Is there anything I can do to fix it or should I go out and buy a new battery? (concidering the battery is the culprit)
Some help would be much appreciated.

If you have a wall AC adapter, try using that. I've always had good luck using it when the ipod tarded out and the USB cable wouldn't work.

apple replaces them for a fee I believe, but give their support line a call or visit an apple store.

A ridiculous fee from what I hear though potterface, so if you go the replacement route Davie, then I would recommend
this online retailer instead.
I'm now having second thoughts as to whether it is the battery or the hard drive causing the problem. The guy which I got it off told me that it sometimes made clicking noises while playing. Its going to be difficult to diagnose this by myself so should I just take it to the Apple Store and then they can diagnose the problem for me?

hah, more like $100 or something man. unless it's under applecare.
I just checked the Apple site for iPod services if not under warranty. $369 AUD. I went over to a friends house today and we discovered that both the battery and hard drive were fried. After we tried it in the charger + an external battery for it, the HDD made it's clicking sound during both attempts. Which means that the HDD is dud aswell as the battery.
