The protesters also burned German, U.S., and Israeli flags.

What do Israeli flags have to do with the pope?

I admit the Pope is a damn retard who is the worst thing to happen to christinity, but doesn't anyone else think a holy war is a bit over the top.

What I want to know is why US flags are being associated the Catholics?

We have had ONE Catholic president; John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and the biggest opposition to his election was the fact he was Catholic.

We as a nation are the location of the tangible development most protestant denominations. The oldest church in America is Presbyterian, right down the street from my house. They will be more than quick to remind you that as we deposed the Monarchy of the English Throne, so did we depose the patriarchy of the Papal Authority.

Geez,.. some people are just not capable of thinking their protest through, I guess.

I suppose burning Italian and Mexican flags just wouldn't look as serious on CNN and Reuters. wink.gif

Well, we all know Judiasm and Catholism are hand in hand in the conspiracy of the world domination.

Rosh Hashanah is coming up. Time to go steal little kids and make their blood into our cookies.

Obviously, the reasons for this holy war is not only religious, but more political.

and now, they are calling on Friday to be a "day of anger"

what a friggin joke. Does the Ayatollah also paint his nails black and listen to My Chemical Romance?

and everyone is pandering to this immaturity so much nowadays, I bet muslim kids get the day off from school to protest and and make papier mache effigies to burn.

Maybe Islamic Nations just need ritalin.

"We tell the worshipper of the cross (the Pope) that you and the West will be defeated, as is the case in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya," said a Web statement by the Mujahideen Shura Council, an umbrella group led by Iraq's branch of al Qaeda.

"We shall break the cross and spill the wine ... God will (help) Muslims to conquer Rome ... (May) God enable us to slit their throats, and make their money and descendants the bounty of the mujahideen," said the statement, posted on Sunday on an Internet site often used by al Qaeda and other militant groups.

What really amazes me about this, for some, their comments and actions confirm what the pope stated.

Where as,

About 100 Indonesian Muslims protested peacefully over the Pope's remarks outside the Vatican embassy in Jakarta.

Quite the contrast in reaction.

That doesn't make sense though. The pope has almost no political influence in the USA. I'm sure theres a few senators that are catholic, even with that, most catholics dislike this pope. And Israel? What could Israel possibly have as a political connection to the pope?

This stupid at best. Everytime someone says something they don't like, they're going to declare holy war?

maybe they bought US and israel flags in bulk to burn, and are waiting for the italian flags to come.

until then, they burn what they have...

One of the saddest aspects that I see is that so many people don't look about how similar christianity, judaism, and islam are to eachother. The only real difference is that dispute over whether or not Jesus was the Christ. Some recognize him as either a prophet or a good person, but not as Messiah.

The reason why I bring this up is that the media continues to show things like this happening...look at the big bad christians bashing the islamic community, look at the jews who are protesting Passion of the Christ because they were responsible for nailing Jesus to a piece of wood thousands of years ago. Look at the muslims blowing up themselves all in the name of their god. Their God? Allah is God, God is Allah, either way you look at it.

So we burn flags. Flags are supposed to be a symbol, a symbol of the people, of the government. That symbol represents everything connected to it, the people, the history of it all. Now when they burn it in protest, they are making a direct statement of what should happen to those people, to that government, to that entire pact of ideals.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for expressing yourself in a protest. I think what Benedict has done was a low blow and should have apologized. He can't look the other way and pretend things like the Spanish Inquisition did not exist. What has our fellow Christians done to the entire world, all in the name of God? Sometimes, I feel that God is still weeping for the billions of lives lost all in his name, to "spread" his word, to "spread" his love.

Ladies and Gentlemen, there will come a day a judgement, and in the end we will see who was in the right, and who was in the wrong.

No one is arguing over burning of flags. thats all good and fine. When its peaceful. Despite the violene it represents because the people doing it have a violent way of acting.

Its not like a group of pacifists are burning the flag. These are people who blow themselves up, riot and cause great amounts of damange over an essential pin drop.

I think its a basis of what the media would like us to see. Yes, there are those who will take a violent course of action in order to get their opinion across the table; however I don't think its the majority, I rather believe its the minority.

You have got to wonder what a world without religion would be like.
dkreifus
VR...religion isn't bad. It's actually a healthy thing IMO. But its when people substitute religion for reality that things become a problem

When religion takes over and there is no room for other opinions, thoughts, or even a sense of humor. When religion causes us to forgo common rationale and thought is when it goes too far.

Not even absurd, not funny, but really, really sad... This shows how much self-esteem some Muslims have: none whatsoever. If you have self-esteem, insults don't hurt you.

Do you see Israeli's around the world setting fire to Mosques after Achmadinejad said the holocaust never happened? Everybody finds it normal to insult Jews, Americans (oh no sorry, "The Big Satan") and Europeans on a daily basis, but beware if someone says anything about Islam. Then you are insulted even more, threatened (an Italian nun got killed, some churches were set on fire), and all we are allowed to do is apologise all the time. Even for things that happened in the 16th century. So ok, I'm waiting for a Muslim apology for the battle of Constantinople in 1453.

Who has to give us lessons about tolerance? We have Mosques, and Islam is an officially recognised religion in Europe (in my country, Belgium, Muslims are even funded by governement, like all other religions). Try to imagine a church in Saudi Arabia. Then try to imagine the governement funding it. Good luck.

How many of the idiots protesting would even remotely KNOW what the pope said and in which context he said it? (this was in an academic lecture, stating before quoting that he didn't even agree with it!!!).

I can truely imagine that it's a very small minority that is protesting today, and is saying they will slit our throats (and spill our wine, what a waste sad.gif ) and who has protested against the Mohammed cartoons, but can we say that an impressive majority of Muslims are condemning these violent reactions?
