ok, my beef is in two stages:
1. Nuclear is not any more cost effective than wind power until you try to power more than 10% of the grid load. Egypt is 86% natural gas (Liquified initiatives began officially last year) and 14% is hydroelectric (which is a great way for Iran to go, especially with some of their water quality so bad, it has killed off all waterlife. That way, you can reserve those waters for hydroelectric and work towards environmental improvements.)
... in fact, From windfarms, you can get energy at more than a dollar cheaper.
2. Nuclear energy (as it is currently being employed) is NOT SUITABLE for anything but a history book. No one should be trying for nuclear power, not Iran, Egypt, Venezuela, or America! Nuclear energy is dangerous, and its by product is one of the most dangerous substances in the world. It can too easily be converted to weapons, but even more, it is impossible to internationally regulate the disposal of waste. Russia proved that all too well.
...People seem to forget that cold fusion was the goal, and we have yet failed to achieve it. We can keep trying, but to use and promote a flawed process that can kill everyone on the planet is unconscionable.
The world should focus on renewable and reproducible energy sources. I still maintain that simple development of better control areas and points of delivery, we could easily scale back the loss off line as energy passes through the grid.
but this is not about energy, Egypt has been upscaling energy for a while, and is well above even the highest estimations of expected capacity for well over the next 5 years. This is about a poised position of alliance, albeit not necessarily for any ill purpose.
