I installed winxp on a second computer. The dvd recorder will read but not record to the recorder. It says no disk in drive. When I right click on the recorder drive in explorer and choose properties there is a tab missing. On my computer that will record there are five tabs "General, Autoplay, Hardware, Sharing and Recording". On the computer that does not record there are only 4. The one that is missing is the Recording tab. Any help would be appreciated to get the recorder to work.

Ok check this link Windows XP CD Burning Secrets its By Ed Bott, Microsoft Press Author and Expert Zone Community Columnist.

You may have to update your Burners firmware that will enable it to recognize more disks and possibly fix other issues. check the support site of the manufacturer that made your burner, or check Here

Maybe stupid, but are you sure you have got the proper drivers installed?

Maybe Windows recognized it as a standard DVD reader?

If that is the problem, uninstall the drive from device manager and reboot. When you log back in, it'll re-install the drive again - hopefully with the correct drivers.

You might wanna take a look at the manual and only use recommend media. Try switching between +R and -R formats.

One thing you haven't mentioned is the make and model of the drive? It might be a known issue with the drive and fix might be available.

Edit* Just had another though. Are you using Windows to burn stuff to disc or a 3rd party application? If you using Windows to burn, then you need to start the 'IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service' service, found in services.msc.
