Full Version: Internet Explorer 8 May Debut Before You Think
ieXbeta Board > Tech > Alpha/Beta Roundup
Pr0digy
You may get to have a look at the future of the Internet Explorer browser sooner than you might think. Although Microsoft is currently lagging behind Mozilla that has introduced Firefox 3.0 Gran Paradiso
since early December 2006, third party sources confirm that the next version of Internet Explorer is already cooking in the Redmond labs.

At the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Microsoft has confirmed that the development of Internet Explorer 8.0 has already debuted. Coincidentally, at MIX 06, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates promised that releases of Internet Explorer will be separated by 9 to 12 months maximum. In this context, Internet Explorer 8.0 should be launched towards the final quarter of 2008.

Another interesting supposition regarding IE 8 states that an alpha edition of Internet Explorer 8 has already been deployed in-house at Microsoft.

Lol, they have to Develop it as fast as they can after there garbage IE7.

I don't know about "garbage" IE7, but it (IE7) definitely isn't all it should've/could've been considering it had been so long since they had done anything with the browser. This should give them enough time to at least make IE8 look and act like a REAL improvement though.

Well I welcome IE8. I hope they improve upon IE because I'm not a happy fan of FF anymore.

That makes the most sense.

Thanks, but no thanks. No way in hell am I using an alpha of a internet browser! Must be frigging crazy, besides. I haven't actually seen that floating around anyway. So I'm calling fake/virus on this one.
Chugworth
Nice, I can't wait to get my hands on an IE8 alpha! Maybe Nanzy could host it on the ieXbeta server and it would be just like old times. biggrin.gif

Quite nicely from what I gather. Should be out around June or July, I think? unsure.gif

I'm not sure if I want to call IE8 vaporware, just yet, since most browsers come out with updates yearly.

Personally I hate the UI for ie7 and am holding off deploying it to users simply because I don't need an assload of trouble tickets pouring in from users who can't find their favorites.

Well I deployed IE7 on the day it was released. And oddly enough, I got very few complaints about it. I did have a couple of issues with some programs not working though. But in those cases, the programs were just some old shit that wasn't properly coded. They tied into the web browser in ways they were not supposed to.

I even started to gradually deploy Office 2007 since our licenses cover it, and I was surprised to see that most people actually like it. So far I have only had one request to take it off. rolleyes.gif

I'm curious to see what happens when I start deploying Vista.

Same here all around. We're even starting to get requests for Vista installs. We have to hold off on any significant deployment until McAfee gets their enterprise vista product out (stupid multi-year contacts...).

Unfortunately, one of our web apps doesn't work quite right with anything but IE6, so we had to roll back on those users' boxes, but 90% of our users are flaw free, and we've had next to no complaints. We actually have more calls about Firefox not working with things than IE7, by quite a large margin, mostly because of IE's more intuitive plugin support.

Well i wonder how people can try to run an alpha of a browser while its final product isn't stable, i prefert Firefox alot more its alot better and with IETab its make me dont need to IE at all.

I was exactly like you, I really hated the new UI of WIE7. But I gave it a try, and found that it actually works better than the old UI of IE6. You don't actually need to menu bar (I did have this enabled for a while on WIE7) I only every use it once (to import my cookies) and it can bring it up just by pressing Alt. My internet browsing experience is now much faster. With the favourites centre located to the left of my screen and being able to open several links at once (middle click on folder group).

yes.gif Office 2007 is exactly like WIE7 for me, hated it at first, but now I can't live without it. Besides it amazed me how much quicker I could create a nice looking document in Office 12 than in Office 11. And that is a massive plus point for me. I can't wait till I properly start using Vista + IE7 + Office 12.

While I agree running an alpha version of an internet browser isn't exactly a great idea - this rest of the statement....eurgh I'm not gonna bite.
kurgan2001
I'm sorry, but IE7 is just too buggy with the web apps I have to work with. It was deployed on our server and now my coworker can't do certain things that he needs (wasn't my idea) ... that and WebCT is a bit .. how should I say it. Perturbed with IE7. I am an admin on the machine, but I don't have the username, password, and client number to download and install the hotfixes .. grrrrrrrrrr ... ticks me off to no end. Actually now that I think about it. I don't work on that machine locally anyways (I'm in a different dept.)

I have it at home and it works alright, but I'm stickin with Opera for most everything I do.

Hopefully, IE8 will be a much better browser.

Dear XXXXXX,

The IE team needs your input to help guide us during our planning phase. The following survey is aimed at getting more usage information from you and gathering your feedback on which customizations and performance scenarios need to be improved upon in IE8.

https://connect.microsoft.com/windows/Surve...x?SurveyID=3437

Please be aware that this survey is going out broadly to all Tech Beta participants but the resultant data will be followed up by the participants who chose to opt-in to the IE8 beta as we target a smaller group of participants to work with during our early phases.

We'd ideally like all surveys to be completed by Thursday, March 1, 2007, so that we can use consensus from the survey to help us assign dev time to appropriate areas of investment.

Regards,
Windows Beta Team
