I know this has been discussed, but its a long time past, and I wanted to create a new discussion about it.

What kind of alternative router firmwares are out there for the mainstream routers.
I know of Sveasoft, but they've gone subscription.

Personally, I like the linksys firmware, but I want to be able to have Static IPs based on Mac Addresses.

The only one I've heard of is DD-WRT.

openwrt.org

REALLY good stuff with those - built on linux - can run various small apps on it.

So far, openwrt seems to be more thorough with its information. I still havnt seen peep about reserved IPs, but I have to keep looking

Sveasoft is shady in the way they present their marketing strategy. Yes, they can make you pay for a subscription. They are charging for the service of letting you know there is a new version. They cannot keep you from downloading or redistributing their software though. From what I've read about them, it's completely legal for you to go to your favorite torrent site, download sveasoft and install it.

I use tomato firmware. Uber light weight. I was getting disconnects every few hours with linksys firmware, installed Tomato firmware and boom, only time it goes down is when power goes out.

I'm gonna check out the sveasoft one. I just want to find IP reservations. The rest, I'm happy with

How you getting on using the alternative firmware dkreifus?

I've been using openWRT, and so far, its been working great. I set it up once, and no problems since.

But I did have to take some time to learn how to properly set it all up
