Apple has confirmed that its much-anticipated iPhone product will launch on 29 June in the US.

The date was given in a series of TV adverts broadcast on Sunday, and was later confirmed by a spokesman for the California-based company. The device, which combines the features of a mobile phone and personal digital assistant, will sell for $499 (£251) and $599, depending on configuration.

The phone's much-touted feature is a completely touch-sensitive interface. The adverts on sunday showed off several of the gadget's features, including surfing the net, watching videos and scrolling through e-mails using a finger as a pointer.

They ended with the news that the phone would be available "Only on the new AT&T" and "Coming June 29". The product is one of the most highly-anticipated devices ever made by Apple and was announced last January at MacWorld in San Francisco by the firm's chief executive Steve Jobs.

His unveiling of the device managed to overshadow one of the world's largest technology conferences, CES, which was being held at the same time in Las Vegas.

Indeed, 25 days until the most overhyped piece of technology of the year is released. It's not even all that innovative. Much like the PS3, it's got the name and a good publicity machine behind it but the price is going to keep it back I think.

Hm... Sounds like they should change its name to the iFlopped *Snicker*

But seriously (eek!) Any idea where would be a good place to grab one of these? I have a client that's dieing to get their hands on one. Will the AT&T store be the only outlet for the first batch out?

My MOTOKRZR K1 costs $650 retail but I paid $150 with discounts and 2 year agreement rebate. yes the phone costs a lot but nobody on earth buys a cell phone outright unless 1)they are desperate to get a new phone and NOT renew their contract or 2)the phone is cheap enough that renewing the contract for the rebate is pointless.

On the other hand, A lot of suckers will be born when this phone comes out. Hopefully, they'll cancel their service before the 30 day trial and save a ton of money before it's too late.

She actually, and yes it is for a client ... I wouldn't be caught dead with anything that had an Apple logo on it.

Y'know what bugs me more than anything about this thing (besides the obvious having to explain to all my clients how we won't be supporting employees who buy this phone due to the nearly complete lack of business capabilities)? I've been waiting for MONTHS to get a Samsung SCH-i760 or HTC 6800, but both Sprint and Verizon have been sitting on them at least partially because of the iPhone, which isn't even competing in the same market segment as them.

Ah well, they'll all be out this month, and I can get my "better PDA phone than the iPhone" for half the money like I've been waiting for all along.
