On Wednesday, the Nullsoft division of AOL officially released version 5.5 of their popular media player Winamp. This new release is also the 10th anniversary edition of the product.

The major new features included with this 5.5 release of Winamp include the following:

There's no playlist in the new skin 'Bento' so no can do. If the oversized window was a playlist, I'd be happy.

The thing takes up a lot more screen space than before. I opened it and it took up like 75% of the screen and I'm using a 1280x1024 resolution.

The playlist is in the top right area, at least it was for me. When they first introduced the library, I didn't like it preferred playlists. The last year or so I've really started using the library feature a lot and I really l like it, it's great for managing music.

There's also a button in the lower bottom right of the playlist box that causes the playlist box to drop all the way down to the end of the window. See

Yir, that's right. But I'd like the playlist window to cover most the of lower part of the skin. Like:

[Main window][Song info][Lyrics plugin]
[Playlist only]

I'm liking Winamp Remote aka Orb.

It's a sweet alternative to Zune so I can stream my music to my Xbox. Plus it's a good alternative than leaving AIM running so I can DL songs away from home.

yeah, Orb is fantastic...unless you have a dual core processor. For some reason it causes high CPU usage. I did a google on it and didn't really find any answers, but other people with the same problem. I'm hoping it's fixed in the final version of Orb as it's really cool to be able to stream music to my phone, PS3, work PC, etc without any extra client end software. I guess you can stream to the Wii too via web interface, but I haven't tried it yet.
