I'm getting a new MacBook within the next week or so, and I'm restructuring how my home LAN works.
I'm going to be using the MacBook at school/work, and i have my old laptop running WinXP (or XP64 if i can get it working) and a desktop running Debian Linux Etch. At home, I also have a WRT54GS running DD-WRT.
I'm looking for a VPN solution that will allow me to access my home network from campus or elsewhere. I'm going beyond a simle SSH into a remote computer this time around.
Previously, i've used Hamachi (www.hamachi.cc great program if youve never heard of it before), but throwing linux and macos into the mix is making me look for other options. Currently, hamachi only supports linux and mac via a console package, which is tempramental at best. Plus, i want my new mac to have a nice shiny GUI...
Any suggestions?
I mentioned the router because i'm also open to installing some sort of VPN server/gateway on it directly (ive got samba configured for it, so disk space isn't a problem).
Best case scenario, i'd also like it to be portable, something i can throw on a usb drive and use it on other people's machines (or library/computer lab machines) temporarily. AFAIK, hamachi can't do this either...
If this works, and if/when i have the time, i'll give you all a detailed rundown of what i've done/am planning to do with my LAN and said VPN service. It's bound to make you all jealous.
