I previously posted a guide on moving Outlook 2003 on XP to a new computer. And I am attempting the same with Outlook 2007 on Vista.
(I am in need of a reformat. Man..I hate Vista. I'd ditch it if I didn't need to learn it for my job.)

Note: This is a test. We'll see my success, or misery, and I'll update this post. Also, because I don't have all these files, I cannot test everything. I'll denote a *** with everything untested

Step 1. Move the following files to their respective locations from the old computer to the new one. (Note: You must be viewing hidden folders) Not all of these files will exist, depending on how much you worked with Outlook.

Outlook Data File
\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\*.pst
Offiline Folders File
\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\*.ost***
Personal Address Book
\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\*.pab***
Offline Address Books
\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\*.oab***
Command Bar and Menu Customizations
\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\*.dat
Navigation Pane Settings
\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\*.xml
Registered Microsoft Exchange Extensions
\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\*.dat
Outlook Contact Nicknames
\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\*.NK2
Rules
\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\*.rwz***
Print Styles
\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlprnt (no extension on filename)
Signatures
\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Signatures\*.rtf, *.txt, *.htm (anything)
Stationary
\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Stationary\*.htm***
Custom Forms
\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FORMS\*.* ***
Dictionary
\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Proof\*.dic***
Templates
\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\*.dotm***
Send/Recieve Settings
\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\*.srs

Step 2 Export the following registry key, and its subkeys on your OLD computer.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\<PROFILE NAME>

Import the registry key on your NEW computer.

Step 3 Restart Outlook, or the computer if you so wish. Enjoy.

I've always just exported everything to a PST file and then imported it again and it's always worked fine, either 2003 or 2007. No difference that I saw. I could even import from 2007 into 2003 and vice versa. I only used it for email though, nothing else.

You and me both. I am getting sick and tired of patching this and that with no improvement. sad.gif

I just set up my old XP computer so that I can do some of the tasks I used to do.

Thats a simple thing, but I don't remove all my email from the POP3 servers. Also, the email accounts don't get brought in. This way, my POP3 server's downloaded emails still stay marked as downloaded.

Literally, there is nothing left to do once I copy these back, nothing left to do on my part.

I've had so many issues with updates, and periphierals. If it wasn't for my job, I'd switch back and get it my headaches overwith.

Not to sound petulant, but why the hell are you even using POP3? This is the 21st century after all, and between HTTP mail clients and plugins, IMAP4, advanced forwarding options, and enterprise options like Domino and Exchange, it seems like you are going through hell for nothing. The reason you're having so many issues getting outlook to back all that crap up is because POP3 was never intended to be used that way; the shoehorn "leave mail on server" option is crap! I'm really shocked that it hasen't hosed up server side and started senging you hjalf a dozen copies of each of your new mails. For someone who does all that you do, it's only a matter of time before it does.

As an aside, have you tried just backing up your entire user profile using the provided profile copy tools? Our techs use them a few hundred times a year with very few issues.

I am using POP3 cause that it what yahoo mail offers. I would love to have IMAP.

This wasn't corporate, it was personal. And I've used the profile tools before, I've even written scripts using USMT for domain migration

But I use oppourtunities like this to clean up the shit that gets generated in profiles.

Ah, I see. That's why I abandoned my Yahoo account. I can use the plugin for Outlook for my Hotmail account, and now gmail supports IMAP, so those two do me fine. Yahoo obviously needs to get their crap together.

I agree...but I've been with yahoo for 10 years or so..other than pop3 issue, I'm pretty happy
