I just reformatted my XP machine, and updated all my software, so now instead of 8.1 (I think) I've got WLM 8.5.
The short of this is, does anyone know how to make it keep its borders? I HATE The windowless designs Microsoft are doing in Media Player and Messenger. Windows are supposed to be bordered with menus.
Without the menubar, you cant even make Messenger sit flush to the top of the screen, which I could tolerate. But its just wasting valuable screen space.

I installed Messenger Plus! and suddenly found a button to keep the menu on! If it weren't possible to get the menu bar permanently I would have downgraded.

Glad you figured it out DD86.
I'm still on v8.1 myself, so I'll keep that mind if/when I upgrade.
no problem to show the menu bar in v. 8.5 / 2008...
Just click on Help in the right corner above your display picture and there's the option "Show the menu bar"
Hope this helps some others that may have the same problem
I can't even install 8.5. The installation fails. Although, I've had it installed earler on a previous Windows installation.

It's not the best messenger ever. They've even moved some things round to incorporate adverts better! You get used to the 'TV screens' around peoples photo's though. Other than that and the larger area at the top where you change name/tag/photo, its easy to get used to. Apart from flash popup adverts at the bottom of the main window. You can activate them just by mousing over on your way to something else.
Also certain things in WLM that open webpages still force open in IE not in your default. I suspect MS are trying to remind people IE still exists.

I tried twice to install this and both times it refused to. The fact that they [Microsoft] don't offer a redistributable download annoys me aswell. That Windows Live Installer is a piece of crap. I like 8.1 + A-Patch.
Come to think of it, I'm not that into MSN any more. Before I would kill to get onto the beta program. Nowadays I hardly even sign in.
I wish there was some 3rd party client that supported webcams. What would I do without my wonderful girlfriends!
If there is, and you know it, don't be shy but tell me!

Actually for me the problem is not the web cam at all, but its the look and feel of the software itself, i cant find a software give me the same flexibility like Windows Live Messenger, but about the performance its sucks really sucks, and i wonder how these guys do this shits all the time, why they don't look at Yahoo messenger or Google talk or even mirc and learn from them.
Well, not to mention the bugs. Like, if I have a conversation with someone for say, 2-10 hours without closing the window, smileys will start disappear, file transfers will crash, voice clips will crash the client and so on...It sucks, really really sucks...
