SVCHOST on my computer is using 1,2-1,5GB of ram. What could be the issue? I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 3 3264

Also, why do i have around 7 instances of SVCHOST?
Danthe
Sounds like malware or something... My largest (in memory) svchost is 19MB, with two or three minors following.

I guess you'll have to wait for those with knowledge.

I'm on Vista. Downloading a bunch of torrents and I have 11 SVCHOSTS. Some are system process, some network process, some local process. Highest memory usage on one of them is 55MB.

Are you downloading anything? They seem to go away after I close uTorrent and wait awhile for the network connection to slow down.

Could be a bug in SP3 as well...

I say it's a bug in SP3... exactly why I didn't bother putting this on my XP machine... smile.gif

Windows should have multiple instances of SVCHOST as, essentially, each is a way for a service to interact with the network/Internet.

However, one consuming that much memory is definitely unusual, so I would recommend you look through your list of running services for potential oddities and also try out Safe Mode as a crosscheck.

The fact you're running a beta service pack though is also another big potential factory, so I'm wondering if you noticed this with SP2 as well.

Thats your problem, right there. Uninstall SP3 BETA and wait for the final.

My SP3 (3244) works perfectly! And it's a release candidate...

It would also depend though Danthe on what software was installed and therefore what services were being ran.
