Broadband Reports has updated their previous story on Time-Warner's plan to limit or throttle internet usage of customers.

Time Warner Trial Caps To Be As Low As 5GB/ Month

Earlier this week we were the first to break the story about Time Warner Cable's plans to implement overage charges (not that you'd know it by reading coverage by the Associated Press or CNET). An internal memo obtained by BroadbandReports.com highlighted the company's plans, but didn't contain exactly what those caps would be.

Multichannel News discovers that Time Warner Cable will initially be setting those monthly caps at 5, 10, 20 or 40 Gigabytes. Another interesting follow up can be found at Cable Digital News, who quotes Charter's CTO as saying "eventually, we will go usage-based."

We're currently going back and digging through Time Warner Cable's third quarter earnings, because we must have missed the part where they say they aren't already making a very healthy profit under the existing flat-rate pricing system.

Well the only thing the public can do then is not go with their service. I'm assuming that they will lose a lot of customers if they switch to a "usage based" service. That's just stupid. I transfer probably more that 20GB a month. These companies have to take into consideration that homes nowadays have more than one computer and that files are larger. The internet is filled with more high resolution video, animations and more then say back in 2000. I think companies like this who put a cap or switch to a usage based service are just hurting themselves.

My provider "Eastlink" is a 15mbps cable connection. I pay around $40/month for it and it has no caps and no throttling. I am in Nova Scotia, Canada. I couldn't even think about switching to a throttled, capped, castrated service, it would be useless to me. I have 4 computers and a mobile device. Also we have a Nintendo Wii and an Xbox 360. My brother plays video games constantly and streams media from the internet. We need the unlimited service.

It'll never work. I can easily pull 3-4GB in a couple of hours and that is just on my shitty 8mb connection.

If this were the case, I would definitely switch from Time Warner to another provider.
