Full Version: What A Billion Muslims Really Think.

Ever since 2001 I have been on the barricade here to oppose the West's policies about Islam.

Ever since 9/11 I said that we should discuss instead of "pre-emptively strike" - even with the most extremes of "terrorists".

Apparently, ever since Bush's 2001 question "Why do they hate us?", Gallup ran a survey, questioning these Muslim views.

The results are surprising. With a demographic sample of 50.000 (!), the results apparently are representative of around 90% of the world's muslims, including the "radicals". That's over a billion individuals...

Read a summary here.

I really am too intelligent for this world. rolleyes.gif

Yeah, so after 9/11 we should have entered discussions with Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. Brilliant. Let's apply that standard to other murderers also. Rather than throw them in prison or execute them, we should enter discussions with them. We will try and determine what led them to take such an action, and negotiate ways that we can change to prevent them from taking such an action again in the future. Your intelligence never ceases to amaze me. rolleyes.gif

I dunno, when someone randomly throws a beer bottle at me just because they want to, I don't try and talk it over with them. I throw something of equal or greater weight and force at them and that usually sends the point.

I'd be like "hey man?!??! WTF?!??!?" and if he threw another beer bottle at me, I'd throw three. now metaphorize that into a foreign relations policy... and that's a bad plan.

it is a bad plan. that shit escalates, like it did.

chug. i suppose you'd want to jail or even execute murderers. what do you learn? jack shit!

talking to them exchanges information. maybe not all conversations are equally educational, but chances still are you'd learn something.

my intelligence might never cease to amaze you... fair enough. Yours just ceases if you refuse to learn.

I'LL agree with these statements !

"if you refuse to learn." I'd say if you refuse to act on the knowledge that you have learned in the past, i think we should have sent them a letter simply stateing " TALK TO JAPAN" and carry out the mission needed!

I do agree with Brains on the aspect that there needs to be more discussion, less violence.

But there is a limit to that theory. I agree, we should discuss things with Iran, and things SHOULD have been discussed with Iraq.

But you can't always have a solution by drinking tea and eating scones. In WWII, they tried the idea of not attacking back right away. Let him have another nation, and he'll stop.

When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, do you really think that was a time to sit and meditate? Maybe throw on a komono and head over and say "c'mon man, what was that all about?"

When you have 2 level headed people, you can have a discussion. But when you have nations full of people, it doesnt work that way.

A person is smart, people are dumb. After 9/11 I had no interest in seeing what made Bin Laden so pissy.

And with all due respect to Muslims, they don't generally have the most peaceful approach to things. I am not saying Muslims are violent killers, but as a whole, the society is not really the most peaceful. Look at how they treat their own women, who are Muslim. And these are people who believe their way is the right way.

Something tells me no matter how much we talk, many of these nations and people have no real interest in peace. Except maybe pieces of us everywhere.

I know plenty of liberal muslims who want peace. But sadly, they're not running anything. Its the old school anti-reform muslim and extremest groups that tend to lead the trend.

So yea..talk is nice. But talk only works when both parties want to talk.
