Hey all, can you all look at this setup and tell me if you think the psu is going to be enough?
It`s not my setup but someone thinks that because the min requirements for the gpu is 550 for crossfire they think it`ll be absolutely fine, where as i think that atleast 800 is in order.

Yeah, I'd go with bit more juice...

If you're going to spend the money, its safer to get more than to get less and risk damaging something, or it not working

I'd also go for a beefier PSU. 550 is going to be really close running Crossfire.

google "Wattage Calculator" and then go with at least 100-200W higher power supply so you have a bit of room to grow.

Thanks Xenokira! This is what I found and it's excellent biggrin.gif

You need at least a 750W PSU to run that setup. Also never heard of the brand that you posted in the specs. It might be some kind of generic PSU, which basically means event though the PSU is labeled as 550W, the actual power output might only be around 450-500W.

I would seriously consider both your GPU and chipset choices.

Try to find an ASUS x48 board

and a 9800 GX2

Although I'd suggest running SLI instead of "dual GPU's".
And well, of course a more powerful and better PSU.

Thanks for the replys guys.
I knew i wasn`t being over the top with saying a better psu was required.
But kids will be kids and listen to noone because they think they know it all already.. lol biggrin.gif

I'd really go with an NV setup atm. Get a mobo based on Nvidia 7xx series with SLI and plug in 2x 8800 GT(S) 512mb.

And as they said, you need a beefier PSU. 550 is nothing when dealing with 2 card setup. 700+ should be your aim.
