Why should I use the PayPal Security Key?
Because it gives you an extra layer of security when you log in to your PayPal or eBay account. Most websites keep your online account safe by only asking for your user name and password to verify your identity. The PayPal Security Key gives you an additional security code that only you know about. That makes your account more resistant to intrusion. Plus, the Security Key's easy to use.

I've heard of such devices for say your banking needs and they sound promising.

However, I can't say whether or not you should get one zapjb. That would depend on how often you use PayPal et al, so your call there mate. Although, a $5 price tag is pretty cheap. Especially for the potential peace of mind.

I'm leaning towards a purchase because I'm going to be pulling up stakes & using others computers for 1-3 months. So I'm leaning towards a little extra security for $5.

I purchased one a couple of months ago. It works fine. I'd say it's worth it to pay $5 for the extra bit of security. These days the majority of my online purchases are done through either PayPal or Google Checkout. It seems more secure to only give a couple of sites access to your credit card information rather than a bunch of different sites. I prefer Google Checkout, and I wish they had a security key device also.
