Hi All,

I was talking to some Russian friends of mine, who are roughly my age - early to mid 20's, and they had lived in the Soviet Union and then Russia before coming here to the US. While they only experienced the tail end of communism, and they are not commies, especially after experiencing it first hand. We were talking about communism one night, and they would definately prefer Russia now as compared to communism, it brought up a few things.

Even though Stalin during the height of the Soviet Union gave the people what they needed, and made people respect/fear him, he wasn't - from my friends' perspectives - an example of what commuism is supposed to be.

That got me thinking, and this is my question:

Are there any real-life examples of leaders or countries that represent what communism is SUPPOSED to be?

Well, there are no good examples of communism because has never been successfully achieved. It's a flawed idea to begin with. Every attempt at communism has basically resulted in fascism.

You said what I would.
Communism is as perfect as an idea as anarchy...

I am from Russa/USSR, whatever you wanna call. I was fortunate enough ot leave before I turned 1, thanks to my parents. But I've been back, and I have family there.
Although some people do feel it is better now, many don't. Many people lost money and their livelyhood when communism fell.

But to your question..its a great idea on paper. But paper doesn't take into account the ideas of greed and desire. Its human nature to want more than your neighbor.

I read a study not too long ago, where people were willing to take less money, provided their neighbor got less than them, rather than take more money, if their neighbor got the same or more than them.

Communism may work in a emotionless enviornment, but until they activate the chips in our heads, we won't have that.

agree. in theory it is all fine and dandy.

practically, it just doesn't work.

I agree, but actually it seems that its always attract younger people specially in early 20s who didn't have enough real life experience i think most of political systems looks perfect in paper but when you see how its applied you could feel disgusting, for me i think communism make more people suffer, and i think a managed capitalist system is the best all the time.

How about the utopic Gypsy system Harry AnderS describes in his beautiful books?
