I have a Maxtor 80GB HDD that just crashed by itself lately,

It seems as though the Platter spins up and slows down and then spins up and slows down(Repeat)

What could be the problem?

I don't know what kind of cause you're looking for Marco as it would seem like part(s) of the hard drive simply failed. Besides, it's not like the hard drive is repairable even if you do isolate the issue further.

I just want to be able to retrieve data, and i don't think it's the head, it looks like the motor but i'm not sure.


EDIT: Managed to get the motor spinning, Topic can be closed.

Okay, well that's a different question, but glad you were able to get the data back. Now look at implementing a backup strategy!
