I finally started making use of my DVD burners that I own.
I've used Windows DVD maker, but it only makes videos, with no chapters. Thats Vista, and I understand its limits.
I tried using Sonic MyDVD, but it seems that in order to create chapters, you have to 'add' the video again.
I wanted to create a video, have it just play, or have a scene selection, which I presume is chapters.
Does it have to load the video twice? Or when you click 'play movie', it just starts from the first scene?
I also realized that MyDVD sucks ass.
Any good authoring tools out there? Especially Open Source or free?

Yes, chapters are used for scene selection dk, but defining them alone doesn't automatically imply the authoring of such a page. It just allows you to skip back n' forth through the video.
As for software, my experience is limited to the Easy Media Creator package and I only made a half dozen or so under it due to the required horsepower to re-encode the video content. Therefore, I don't have a personal recommendation and unfortunately I'm drawing a blank on the ones I've read, but I was able to dig up
this previous thread on the subject.

DVD lab Pro is the way to go. It's quite complex and scary at first, but it's a VERY powerful program. It'll do all the things you've asked and more.
Oh yeah, I did that 3in1 Matrix Disc that I mentioned in the link. All fancy menus and stuff, even managed to get hold of the matrix font.
