Hi people, I have a system that has FAT16 file system on it. I have that file system on that for some reason so I don’t need to upgrade on that….but recently I had some files deleted and now I need to get them back. They are important for my official use and hold great importance. I know that there is software for recovery but since I have a FAT16 file system I guess that all won’t work on that.

Please let me know the solution for this problem.

I would think the software would still work on a FAT16 file system and I would think such recovery is actually easier in that case. Check the product info. though to confirm that being the case or just give it a try.

step 1 - turn off that computer, dont use it anymore until you get your files off of it.

bootdisk.com may be able to help, they have some good DOS disks that have FAT16 recovery tools on them (like undelete and the somewhat feared recover command)
backup anything that is important before doing any thing else.

if you decide to boot into a live operating sysem (other than DOS) maks sure you have swap disabled!

This is now a bit problem….since you are using an older file system I guess you are right…everything wont go on this one. But, I hope that you have tried some….before going on the hunt for a new one. In our office we Recover Lost Files by a software that supports FAT 12, FAT 16, FAT 32, NTFS and NTFSS file systems. This one really works well and is simple to manage…..you don’t need to be an expert for that. This will be handy in solving your problem.

Hope this will get the data back!!!!

You can try Stellar Phoenix file recovery software. It will help you to recover all your data. This software is very easy to use and provides good data recovery solution. This software helps you in recovering your all-important data lost after an accidental format, virus crash, partition loss, software malfunction, deleted file or directory. You can download the demo version of the software from

In demo version the software will completely scan your drive and you will be able to see the preview of your recoverable file.

I don't know if jackson is still looking for an answer, but I recently learned about a free tool to do such FAT16 recovery and that's PC INSPECTOR's File Recovery.

By the way Brain_dead, I honestly feel that those kinds of trials are a joke. Seeing the file is the easy part and ultimately usless.
