Really interested to hear your take on it.
Any hints where one might be able to acquire it? Nevermind

Wasn't this just leaked?
Yeah, it's an expired versions though so set ur BIOS clock back to dec 2007.
It's all over torrent sites.

To my understanding, they haven't changed much from Vista...
Have you noticed anything?
It's an early build, you're not going to see any changes at this point. Most of it is little things and under the hood.

Indeed Scott because, if I recall correctly, visual changes don't generally come until post-Beta 1, pre-Beta 2.

Thats part of my qualm..I think if its a new OS, and they're going to improve on Vista, they should have further changes by the time there is a leaked beta.
Vista has alot more issues that visual stuff. Any improvements on the UAC?

I'm running in a VM (using VirtualBox on Vista), but I haven't really noticed anything. Since I'm using a VM, I can't make any fair performance related comparisons, but as far as the UI goes, there's only some very minor differences so far...nothing to get excited over. There's a new start-up screen--very similar to the Vista log on screen, and a few menu changes. I'm sure most of the changes at this point are under the hood.
I think I might install Win7 on a spare HD later this weekend so I can try it while the OS is running natively.

There are multiple builds of software each day/week. The leaker doesn't get to choose (most of the time) what software build to leak. They leak what they get their hands on. I could leak all kinds of things at RIM, but i'd rather not lose my job.

I understand how builds work, and how leaks work. I just think that they need to start re-creating MW7 at a much lower level of code than they have already developed.
Granted, I could be being harsh on it. I just hate to see MS pull an "Apple", where they wait 2 years, add a few features to it, and call it a new OS. Especially when this OS has not done so well.

It's not even a beta build though dk, or technically even an alpha, but simply a milestone release, so patience man, patience.

I read something a while back that it was going to be more "modulized", or whatever it's called. That is, giving you the option to choose which components to install.
Is that still the case? That alone would make a pretty sweet improvement.

That would be very nice, especially from a corporate deployment point of view. I manage the image for my corporation, and anything to help would be nice.
One thing I think they should do is reduce the sku's..and have a 'business' mode of some sort. And this mode would reduce all unneccesary visualizations, games, etc.
Majority of companies dont care or want 'glass' or the visual stuff. (unless thats their business). they want to make the system run as fast as possible.

Yes, exactly.
I don't see a reason why not. Take Vista Business, for example: why not include all functions it currently features, but have them hidden and/or disabled as in Windows Server 2008.
Because a Server 2008 system minus the server features is what corporate users would want.

They are doing this for Windows 7. Research MinWin.
Windows Server 2008 had a "preview" of MinWin if you like, by adding Windows Server CORE SKU.
